Ravenous nature is the inspiration, an expression of consumers being consumed. 

As a boy I collected fossilised shark teeth, strange remnants that reveal themselves in layers of geology.

The dissonant mixed media (highly tactile, physical porcelain vs. wispy, diffuse oil paint washes) seem analogous to fossilised teeth, the only trace left to a fleshy, wispy creature who swam millions of years ago. 

The teeth in this painting were individually sculpted, then cast in a one-piece mold. In this I pressed porcelain, which has a very boney or toothy feeling when fired at high temperature.

I finally fired this successfully. These guys have been through a variety of glazes and kilns at various firing temperatures, the last at stoneware setting.

Sculpted this during my stay at Ullevaal in Oslo this summer. The mold is a two piece, with ears cast separately and applied. Porcelain is a tough, inflexible clay to work, but it has nice properties when scrubbed during the glaze staining.
